ABOUT MINHAZZ

I am a passionate advocate of Indian art and craft and through my work, hope to build bridges between the skilled creators and audiences worldwide. My wish is that with enhanced communication and interaction, there will be greater understanding and appreciation of cultural diversity and we will learn to value knowledge systems other than the one we are familiar with ”.

   Minhazz Majumdar

Minhazz Majumdar is a writer, educator, craft promoter and art curator based in India.

Born in the beautiful Northeastern state of Assam, Minhazz moved to New Delhi for higher studies. In 1992, after completing her Masters degree in Literature from Jawaharlal Nehru University Delhi, Minhazz undertook her first craft documentation project around the Kaziranga National Park, home to the one-horned Indian rhino. Since then, Minhazz has been involved in several craft and folk art development initiatives, both at the individual and global level.

Along with her husband Shahriyar Choudhury, she has set up the following organizations

·         The Earth & Grass Workshop, an organization that aims at preserving cultures and promoting traditional practitioners.

·         The Bidhannagar Craft Development Society (BCDS), which is a non-profit training organization

·         With support from the National Mission on Bamboo Applications, The Bamboo Store, Delhi’s first store dedicated to natural materials particularly bamboo.

For Minhazz, the more she learns about arts, crafts and culture, in India and elsewhere, the more there is to discover and learn. Join Minhazz on this journey of discovery!
